New students will attend an online orientation prior to the class to review the course objectives, attendance requirements and meet Dr. Joy. Courses will include online lecture and discussion and writing assignments. All classes are offered during Pacific Standard Time.

Coaching for Emerging Preachers
This program offers participants tools to sharpen their preaching skill in delivering biblical sermons that relate to the social issues of today. This 40-week course allows those who currently support their church community to immediately apply learned principles to the church body in which they serve.

- Advice to help discern what God is calling you to versus what you are trying to avoid
- Affirmation from provision of spiritual and Godly support through prayer and intercessions
- Advocacy in the form of an on-ramp to public engagements and access to a respected senior leader to speak on your behalf
- Accountability through help with follow through on commitments and building a healthy community of peers
- Assistance through identification of quality resources that includes measurements for success
Mentoring for Program Leaders
This program centers on leadership in community development and direct service programming. This 40-week course supports those in leadership roles in a church or para-church agency to develop their leadership skills and enhance the impact on those they serve.

Doing Justice Initiatives (DJI)
A Structured Curriculum for Bible-Centered Social Justice
Our doing justice initiatives cover a range of social justice topics. Topics are announced and rotated throughout the year. This 5-week study will help those in a leadership role in a church or para-church agency to discern God’s call to the church in response to complex social issues. Class size is limited.

- Broader cultural and ethnic perspectives around selected topics

Small Group Ministry Circles
Our small group ministry circles are 8 to 12-week sessions on various topics important to administering Christ-centered small groups for community building and/or healing. The ministry circle topics are announced and rotated throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to build your customized framework for developing genuine, lifelong relationships.
About Dr. Joy Johnson
Dr. Joy Johnson is a faith leader for racial reconciliation throughout the Sacramento Region. She is widely recognized for her prophetic voice as a preacher, teacher, and facilitator and her commitment to restoration and healing for individuals and communities.
Dr. Johnson has been leading at the local level, most recently as the first woman to preside over Sacramento Area Congregations Together and with her housing-based social services organization, Life Matters, Inc (LMI) in North Highlands. She leads and collaborates with many multi-faith, multi-ethnic grass roots advocacy projects for social justice.
She is also deeply committed to supporting and mentoring the youth in her community, something she has done for many years. Many of the youth she and her husband mentored in their Rites of Passage program have gone on to do outstanding work in their own right with their families and communities.
Dr. Johnson is a leader in building bridges between churches, working alongside white pastors and pastors of color. Currently, she is on the leadership team of Sacramento’s City Pastors Fellowship and also facilitates diverse groups of preachers meeting together as part of a peer-learning program hosted by Ogilivie Institute for Preaching at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Dr. Johnson is a graduate of St. Mary’s Cole in Moraga, CA and has a doctorate degree from Sacramento Theological Seminary in Sacramento, CA. and is Teaching Pastor at Agape Alive Church in Carmichael, California and is the author of “ARISE and SHINE – Your Life Really Matters.
